The Lighthouse Academy of Fredericksburg’s vision is to offer the families that live within the Rapahannock Region an opportunity for their children to be raised in an environment that is equally, if not more, concerned about their child’s moral and ethical development, as it relates to sound biblical instruction, as their child’s academic excellence and achievement. The vision carries with it a mandate for excellence in all areas of operation, from the cleanliness of the environment to the excellence of curriculum to the administration of the school. The position of teacher, according to the Word of God, involves a stricter, Godly, judgement that promotes integrity, loyalty, respect, accountability and right living. We understand how the Bible defines the role and “call” of the position of Teacher and the process of educating young minds. The stakes are high and futures hang in the balance. We understand that we are being held accountable to God more than to man. If we get that right, moms and dads will be very pleased.
We feel as though we are called by God to be THE example in the community, state, nation and even the world over. While we are far from perfect, we strive towards this mark. It is not easy having this “call” and yes, there are times that it feels burdensome, however, we continue and keep Jesus in our sights at all times. This school does invest many hours per week teaching the Gospel as a way of life, not a religion. We teach Jesus, not methodology. We teach superior academics, utilizing a mixture of some of the best methods known to man, to date. We have spent the last ten years forging a new curriculum that expands the mind even greater than even we can imagine.
We always seek to improve and to grow in maturity, in strength, in perfection, in mercy and loving-kindness. We are constantly making new materials and inventing new approaches. Sometimes just for one child. We never give up on a child and work overtime to make a right impact upon every fresh, young mind that wanders into our hands. We know that we are helping shape the personality and that, to us, comes with fear. That is where we are. We fear doing the wrong thing, making the wrong decision, or possibly negatively impacting children. This is why we train all year long to make sure that we are focused and determined to do what is best for each and every child.
We take our role as Teacher as an assignment and not a job. None of the staff at the school approach the endeavor as a job, but a mission. All of the staff are hand picked and genuinely love what they do. They are constantly loving and squeezing and yes, even sometimes having to correct, but with love and respect, your children. The staff understand the vision of the school and love it. They know that there is something very special about this school, as well as most of the currently enrolled families and community. Once you become a part of the environment you understand much, much more about what this letter illustrates and defines.
The vision is big. Too big, it seems most of the time, but necessary for today. Many schools come and go and many claim to do this or that, but one thing is true, no other school is like this one. There are no personal accolades for the founders or any of the staff. All we care about is leading your children by serving them. We refuse to build the school on any one personality, rather on the Lord God Himself and the collective group of staff that He has gathered for a time such as this. We have the best teachers in the world, hands down. Once you meet them all, you will understand. All of our teachers are the ones that most schools wish just had one.
As we continue to be used to help form and mold many young minds, we can’t help but think about the real impact that occurs in the teacher/student relationship. Our teachers become household names, constant topics of discussion, and yes, sometimes even stuffed animals get their names changed to the very names of our staff members. Children’s lives are transformed and rightly impacted to such a degree that students from 10 years ago stop by to see us, even to this day. We sincerely hope that this school’s vision has prompted you to want to come by for a visit. We would love to meet you!
